In Conclusion This paper will attempt to examine microeconomic structures in relation to technological advances. The impact of increasingly available technology is a major economic force. Prior to 1975, for example, viewing a first run movie at home was technically possible but economically infeasible. Only the weal thy chose to view moves at home. VCRs became available in 1976, with a typical price tag of $2000.00 Even at such a high price, that invention slashed the price of home viewing. Today a VCR can be purchased for $200.00, a fraction of its initial cost. Videos can be rented for approximately a dollar or purchased for around $20.00. Home viewing has become common in a few short years, where formerly it had been available only to the very rich. In what other ways has technology changed the way of life and can microeconomic mechanisms accurately predict future economic outcomes? What is Economics? The simple answer to the question, What is the economy? is to state that the economy is the means by which resources are allocated. A more accurate portrayal of economic process is to view it as a machine that produces three distinctly different results: First, the economy determines what goods and services will be produced and in what quantities. Secondly, it indicates how various goods and services will be produced. Thirdly, it resolves the question of distribution. Markets for goods and services, and markets for production of those goods and services command mechanisms directly correlate with the choices made by households, firms and governments. The US economy relies mainly on markets but to a degree on command mechanisms. The US economy is an open economy and has become highly integrated with the global economy. This is a fairly recent development, with foreign investment into US business outstripping US investments in foreign enterprises shifting the balance in the mid-1980s. Economists study these financial movements in order to determine the underlying principles driving the economy. This approach utilizes the same rigor and objectivity of natural scientists. Economic science, like natural science, is an attempt to discover a body of laws. All sciences use the same criteria in the investigative process: careful and systematic observation and measurement, and t he development of a body of theory to direct and interpret observations. That theory is a general rule or principle that allows economists to understand and predict the economic choices that people make. Theories are derived from building and testing economic models. Economic models are built on four key premises. These basic assumptions are: People have preferences People have a fixed amount of resources and a technology that can transform resources into goods and services. People choose how to use resources and technology to increase economic well-being. Peoples choices are coordinated buyers choose what sellers offer and vice versa. The implications of such models are that the values of various prices and quantities result in equilibrium. That is, situations in which everyone has made the best possible choices, given their own preferences, information, resources, and technologies, and that those choices are coordinated and compatible with the choices of everyone else. Equili brium is the solution or outcome of an economic model. Economic models fall into two categories: Microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics is the branch of economics that studies the choices of individual households and firms. Because it analyzes the behavior of economic units, microeconomics is a most important social science. Microeconomics theory is used to analyze various circumstances and outcomes from decision making. In addition, microeconomics provides foundations for scientists of other social disciplines. Microeconomics is a highly

Morgan Literary Forms Dance with My Father Luther Vandross was born April 20, 1951 and died July 1, 2005. He was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. During his career, Vandross sold over twenty-five million albums and won eight Grammy Awards including Best Male R;B Vocal Performance four times. Also, he won four Grammy Awards in 2004 including â€Å"Song of the Year† for the track Dance with My Father (Vandross. com). In the 1980’s Luther Vandross opened up to the world after being a part of several duets and groups one titled â€Å"Luther†. In 1984, Vandross signed to Epic Records were he left a legacy. Though Dance with My Father was written to entertain listeners across the globe; many listeners raised their standard for the type of relationship one engages in. This song was written in a Rhythm and Blues tune, but was crossed over to other genres of music including Pop and Rock in the United Kingdom (UK). His last public appearance before his death was in 2004 for the Grammys and Oprah Winfrey show. His final words to his fans were â€Å"Whenever I say goodbye it’s never for long because I believe in the power of love (vibe). This song has continuously had an effect on people across the world because of Luther Vandross’s ability to use persona identity, figurative language, and theme. The song â€Å"Dance with My Father† was produced by Luther Vandross and Richard Marx on the album titled â€Å"Dance with My Father† in 2003. During this time it had reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was Vandross’s last top 40 track. This song consists of six stanzas or versus and one main chorus. Throughout the song the person speaking is Luther Vandross addressing his father and mother as an adult. He used the image of him being an innocent child when he had no responsibilities and family was the most valuable asset of life. As a family they engaged in activities which resembled the love they have for one another. In the song he states that his father would â€Å"Spin me around till I fell asleep†. This line shows his father as a compassionate man who enjoyed making his son smile. Experiencing parental love gave Luther Vandross the ability to pass this love along to his children, but to also have peace and happiness. The theme for this song is love and appreciation for family. Luther Vandross gave the image of a strong African American family who were average individuals but loved beyond their struggles. The faith of higher power is believed to be the foundation on how his family prevailed through their trials and tribulations. At the end of the song he gives his mom the upmost respect by asking God for the impossible of bringing back his father. â€Å"I pray for her even more than me I know I’m praying for much too much, But could you send back the only man she loved. But Lord, she’s dyin’ to dance with my father again†. Though this family had disagreements, Luther Vandross, knew the love his parents had for one another was the greatest gift from God. To coincide with this song Vandross did a duet with RB artist Beyonce for a similar emotional song entitled â€Å"Daddy†. Each song on the album produced by Vandross gives resemblance of an innocent child’s emotion towards his or her father. The song â€Å"Dance with my Father† still affects many listeners even if one has not lost their father. The song helps a child appreciate the past memories of simple interactions more. Though some listeners cannot fully relate to this song it gives a sense of hope for having family especially for African American for a loving father and husband. The figurative language used is in this song is in the form of imagery. Vandross gives a visual of his father carrying him to his bed after a disagreement with this mother. Throughout the song there were not different types of figurative language expressed. He gave several examples of his father being a gentle and caring man who only wanted the best for his family. In the middle of the song Vandross reveals that his father â€Å"†¦ left a dollar under my sheet†, to show that though it was not much money his father went out every night and worked hard to make that dollar. Also, he uses metaphorical words to show how his mother emotionally felt about his father stating that she would cry often â€Å"I’d hear her, mama cryin’ for him†. Lastly, he uses rhyming words throughout the song to express his self and gratification for the love given by his parents. Inclusively, this song has had an impact on thousands near and far. Luther Vandross has touched over 250,000 fans across the world. This song has not only contributed to the love and appreciation for a family, but has given an image of a worthy man to be claimed as a father. At the end of the song Vandross shows his final appreciation for his father. â€Å"If I could steal one final glance One final step, one final dance with him† than life would be perfect as it was when he was a child with innocents. For many listeners this song could be played on repeat, so the flawless love once felt by Luther Vandross would never end as the song would never end. DANCE WITH MY FATHER Lyrics LUTHER VANDROSS. David Boring by Daniel Clowes Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

David Boring by Daniel Clowes - Research Paper Example Critics judge his creations with a variety of comments and in my essay I will clearly specify my own personal critical view of the writer as well as the author. Born in Chicago in 1961, Daniel Clowes is a renowned author, screenwriter and graphic artist. In his early years, he was unable to find a decent job in his field of interest that is cartooning even with a BFA degree in hand and had to start his career as working freelance and underground. His first project was the comic book series Lloyd Llewellyn, which brought him little yet significant amount of recognition and encouraged him to adopt different types of storytelling ways. His natural talent and abilities have allowed him to set outstanding standards within the field for the past seventeen years. A lonely childhood sparked Clowes’s interest in drawing. He was sent to live with his grandparents at the age of four due to some major family issues and therefore, he had little company growing up. "I spent my whole childho od not saying a word," he explained to  Guardian  writer Craig Taylor. Therefore, drawing and comic writing fascinated him as they provided a channel he could use to convey his thoughts to others simultaneously, proving to be a good solution to his boredom. He possessed a natural artistic streak and therefore, spent innumerable hours drawing and creating comic book figures and characters.   Clowes’s comics majorly revolve around themes like action – based fiction and fantasies. His most famous works came at a time when the comic writing was undergoing serious transformational changes in the 80s and 90s. One of his popular works is the mysterious murder mystery of â€Å"David Boring’, which has been recognized as one of the ten best English language graphic novels ever written. The book portrays the catastrophes that occur from time to time in the life of David, an eponymous, young, American fellow who roams around looking for his soul mate, the perfect wo man for him, and instead came across his father, a comic artist whom he never had a chance to meet. Indeed, Clowes is an impressive writer whose capability of remaining both creative and entertaining is reflected in mostly all his works. According to a critic, David Boring is an exceptional work of skillful storytelling but lacks all kinds of emotional touches (Kannenberg, 2008). From his writings, we are now conversant with calm, composed and controlled Clowes. David Boring is quite an interesting and fascinating book, and Clowes exceptional artwork and character development techniques have made it worth reading. The contextualization of drama and action has been done using varied drawing styles, which change often drastically, as the story moves from one scene to the other (Marrone, 2009). Changes in the setting and the mood have been observed to be swift but smooth and effortless. The brilliance of Clowes is depicted by his frequent use of sharp and bold sketches when creating me lodramatic moods. On the other hand, he keeps his work simple and cute at other places to maintain the ‘cartoonish’ touch of his characters. The artwork in regards to color schemes is impressive. The comic has the traditional black and white color but touches of pale blue enhance the effects greatly, by reflecting the moods of the characters in light of the events happening. Moreover, it also signifies the changes in themes of the story as the story

The Gay Pride Parade Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

The Gay Pride Parade - Essay Example Thus, to commemorate the Stonewall riots, the LGBT community in New York organized for an annual event that would be held on every last Saturday of June, both in New York and also in different parts of the USA, as a reminder that the gay people also have their rights. The result of this initial LGBT initiative of 1969 has been the establishment and proliferation of the Gay Pride Parade worldwide, a movement that has become so big, that it has caught the attention of the world as the most attended and active rights advocacy events of the modern day (Eisenbach, 2006). Thus, while the Gay Pride Parades have managed to achieve the objectives of the LGBT community in a successful and highly unanticipated manner, the questions that this success raises is; what has been the function of the Gay Pride Parades in changing the public opinion? The fact that the Gay Pride Parades globally have turned out to be the most pompous and colorful events of the 21st century can no longer be doubted, while the fact that these events have attracted millions of people; both gay and non-gay members of the society is also unarguable (Alessandra, 2000). Thus, considering the fact that the gay community was treated with resentment, hostility and even contempt in the 1950s and the 1960s, there is no doubt that the public opinion on the LGBT community globally is changing. Additionally, the fact that the societal perception of the LGBT community has changed is easily demonstrated by the fact that the Gay Pride Parades have been held even in the most conservative parts of the world, where such events are unlikely to have any support, or at least to be even allowed. Uganda is a country in Africa that is known to be vocal in voicing its resistance against the gay rights, through establishing legislations that have offered strict punishment, s uch as death penalties, for the LGBT

The Speech of Frederick Douglass - Tandem to Leslie Harris Works Essay - 9

The Speech of Frederick Douglass - Tandem to Leslie Harris Works - Essay Example The author had been invited to make a speech regarding the meaning of the Fourth of July to the black population in America. The author is a male black American citizen. The first section of the speech praised what the founding fathers had done to the country. However, the second section of the speech was in tandem to the issues raised in chapter 6 and 7 in Leslie Harris’ In the Shadow of Slavery and the A People and Nation which focuses on slavery and a criticism of the stance of the American people regarding slavery. This essay will be focused on the speech of Frederick Douglass in comparison to Leslie Harri’s In the Shadow of Slavery and the A People and Nation. In their writings, the two black abolitionists bare almost similar arguments directed towards the perception and the overall negative consequences of slavery. Leslie Harris teaches history at Emory University and an author who writes based on her class experience and gathers enough evidence from newspapers, organizational records and other forms of literature. Leslie Harris gave detailed information about race and class in New York City. In the Shadow of Slavery has revealed more than two-century slavery in the city. She has touched on the real issues that affected African Americans who lived their lives in the shadow of slavery where most of them were enslaved. The black colour was seen as an inferior colour and the dark moments of the blacks could not be erased even after slavery ended. The author focusses on the actions of blacks in the New York City and devotes more than half of the book to the New York City’s slavery. She asserts that blacks played a major role in the development of the city and further gives details on how class and community arose between blacks and whites. She thoroughly tackles the era of slavery, developme nt of antislavery sentiment and movements and finally the era of abolitionism. Harris details the developing struggle against slavery, notes the importance of black labour and notes the white ambivalence about black freedom.

Objectives Of Different Stakeholders Economics Essay

Objectives Of Different Stakeholders Economics Essay There are a lot of types of organizations in UK today, but most common are sole trader, private limited company, government, partnership, public and Public Limited Company. The simplest structure is the sole trader. It is easy to start. You just register your business name and able to start trading. Such types of organizations are funded by only one person. All processes are managed by you and all profit is belongs to the sole trader (after paying tax) because it is funded by him/her. As result the owner has to accept a risk and be able to lose money. The profit depends on activity. Examples are: small shops, professional lawyers, service businesses, farms, doctors, etc. The next way is a partnership. This means that company is funded by two or more people (but maximum is 20). Partner is an individual who has equal responsibilities and share profit and management. Each member has to pay tax. Sometimes doctors, accountants, lawyers unite and organize partnership company. Private Limited Company is a non-government organization. Its shares are not listed in stocks and it is owned by small numbers of members. It is able to sale shares to customers but not the general public. As a result they tend to be small as to raise funds they need directors to act as guarantors for loans. The company is managed by two or more directors. Usually such type of company is used by families. The most famous and success private limited company in UK is Virgin. Public limited Company is a type of company used in UK and the company provides limited liability to its management and owners. In contrast to the private limited company, public one is able to sell shares on public exchanges and stocks. There are several criteria to be PLC. The first one is the minimum share capital and the number of directors. It has not to be less than 50  000 pound and less 2 directors. Also every company should take PLC symbol in the end of the name. Government organizations are owned by country usually they have more permission in inside and sometimes in international markets too. To be a government company state should have more than 51 % shares of company and company managed by state. Usually many railway and transport company are government companies. Franchising is a more difficult form of incorporation. Usually in this type of organization involved two different companies. One gives permission to use their brand, other rents this brand. So the first company has a profit from selling brand. Examples are: McDonalds and Subway. 1.2 Describe the extent to which an organization meets the Objectives of different stakeholders. Individuals, groups, government and all other members who are interested in an organization are called stakeholders. The power and interest of different stakeholders are different. Interest stakeholder is determined by his desire to influence the organization. Therefore, the scheme of stakeholder: The Influence of the stakeholder = Power X Interest. Stakeholders dived into groups: C:Usersà Ã‚ Ãƒ Ã‚ °Ãƒ Ã‚ ²Ãƒâ€˜Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒâ€˜Ã†â€™Ãƒ Ã‚ ·DownloadsQQà ¦Ã‹â€ Ã‚ ªÃƒ ¥Ã¢â‚¬ ºÃ‚ ¾Ãƒ ¦Ã…“ ªÃƒ ¥Ã¢â‚¬ËœÃ‚ ½Ãƒ ¥Ã‚ Ã‚ .jpg Internal External Source(http://chw1986.blogspot.co.uk/2010/07/sample-essay-of-bao3309-advanced.html) Internal stakeholders have a direct and immediate impact on the company. External affect the business indirectly. An interest and an influence of different stakeholders. Shareholders Shareholders people who have invested money in the firm, obviously they are waiting for financial return. They are interested in the growth of profits of the company and its annual dividend. If shares were purchased with speculative purposes, then shareholders may be interested in the growth of their prices to the further resale of shares to cash in on the difference in the costs of buying and selling. Top managers and directors. Managers as any employees who are interested in their salaries, bonuses and prizes. It is important for them and such a thing as a non-financial involvement. Occupying a high position, the Manager takes on weight in society and in their own eyes. In addition, any Manager care about his responsibility area. Customers Customer is the most important stakeholder. It is because they create demand in the market. Their interest is to get the right products at reasonable prices and in good quality. The consumer is interested to get the product as quickly as possible. Guarantees of security and health item also are important for them. Suppliers Those firms that supply raw materials or semi-finished products for companies, as well as provide some services, interested in what the firm ordered from them regularly, punctually paid in accordance with the terms of the contract. Also any provider interested in closer contact with the company, for example, entering into an exclusive contract. Financial corporations Structures that provide the company loans, they are interested in timely refunds and interest. They can keep track of the company with a view to determining whether it is effective it is using funds received and whether their pay. Government Authorities are interested in tax revenue resulting in the formation of the city budget. It also expects the firms employment, as well as the legality of its actions. Corporate social responsibility policies are a duty to do best for good of society. First of all it aimed to customers by offering safe and healthy products at reasonable price. For example Barclays which always provided financial service has CSR policy which includes providing healthy transport such as bicycles to London even it not profitable. The company helps community by this way and increase number of its customers. 1.3 Explain the responsibilities of an organization and Strategies employed to meet them. The main response of the company is to provide good serve or product to it is clients. Consumers want to know if they buy safety and qualitative goods or serve. Companies surely should guarantee what they produce or serve. Marketing also have a place here because many organizations usually promise too much on ads but in reality goods are not as they were described. All this points are written in legislation and organizations must follow them. If we talk about workforce, the company must provide them safety and good condition where they work. The Health and Safety at Work (HSW) is the law which provides and protects these points. According to Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (cited rospa.com, 2012 ) All employers have a duty to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of their employees. They also have a duty to protect non-employees from risks arising out of their work activities. This means employer is liable to provide safe and healthy work environment. In the recruitment process organizations have to provide equal opportunities for all applicants. These points are written in The Equality Act 210 (cited homeoffice.gov.uk, 2012). According to this Act organizations do not have write discriminate jobseekers by their age, sex, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and so on. Companies must provide honest financial report every year or quarterly to their shareholders. It is a statement in which financial performance and other operations are written. For example Enrons (USA company) top managers over stated their profits in the financial report which lead to scandal among stakeholder. As a result company became bankrupt. Another aspect is environment. Organizations are responsible to provide safety goods not only for consumers but it have to be no dangerous for environment too. Today there are a lot of talks about global warming and pollutions. The companys goal is to reduce them within the law. For examples they must buy environment friendly equipments. Such companies like Gazprom care about it. The company tries to minimize the effect from their activity by using new technologies moreover they invest money in environmental programs. According official website Gazprom in 2010 58% of their investment took a place in water protection, 26% land protection. 2.1 Explain how economic systems attempt to allocate resources effectively. The economic system is a complex of socio-economic and institutional relations between producers and consumers of goods and services in country. Since the appearance of human there were a variety of economic systems. However most important are: Free market Planned Mixed Traditional Every system has own benefits and problems, but the common one in any economic system is scarcity problem. This question made us to answer how to produce, how to satisfy all people, how to consume. All types of economy system solve this problem differently. In planned economy system government tries to satisfy all demand in inside economy. Every companies, organizations, factories are belonged to government. Mostly all planned economies are closed for foreign. Benefit of planned economy is stability. Government can easily supply all demand. Disadvantages of this economy is that planners ignore the environmental impact and they do not care about scarcity they just produce to cover demand how much is not important. However in free market goods and serve are produced for personal reasons to take profit from them and companies are owned by people. In free market the main rule is demand and supply. The most difference between planned and free market economy that price of goods or serve in planned economy put by government nevertheless in free market by demand and supply. The scarcity problem in free market is also common but there raw materials are used smartly. When resources are in shortage the price is increasing and the demand gradually goes down in this way resources are used effectively. 2.2 Assess the impact of fiscal and monetary policy on business organizations and their activities The impact of fiscal and monetary policy on business is significant. The aim of these policies is the same but the ways of reach are different. The main purposes are stable economic growth, the stability of the price level(inflation),the balance of payments, low unemployment. Fiscal policy is a stabilization policy of the federal government aimed to control the economic cycles. Thats means that government tries to stabilize economy by changing incomes and outcomes of the state budget. The main tools of this policy are net of taxes and government purchases of goods and services. If in the country the recession, the government can either increase purchases or reduce taxes. If the rise or overheating of the economy, that, on the contrary, reduce purchases or increase taxes. C:Usersà Ã‚ Ãƒ Ã‚ °Ãƒ Ã‚ ²Ãƒâ€˜Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒâ€˜Ã†â€™Ãƒ Ã‚ ·DownloadsGovernment-Policy.jpg Source(http://elleseconomy.com/2010/06/09/fiscal-and-monetary-policy-define/ Monetary policy is stabilization mechanism aimed to control supply of money in the state by Central banks. The central banks of the countries try do it by changing interest rates or Reserve requirements, by open market operations. Also they have other instruments but most common three ones. Changing interest rate has enormous impact to the supply market. When there is a crisis or recession the rates goes down. It happens cause low rates is stimulating people to spent money more as results the demand is increasing and economy recovers. For example now the average rates in the World are the lowest cause it recession period. Another method of controlling supply of money is buying or selling government bonds in an open market. When there is a rise Central bank sells bonds to commercial Banks by that they reduce the amount of money in the market and when there is a recession Central Bank buy bonds from bonds holders(cause not only banks can buy them) as result the amount of money increase and rates are going down. 2.3 Evaluate the impact of competition policy and other regulatory mechanisms on the activities of a selected organisation. Competition policy is a policy aimed to control competition between companies. They control if there are not monopoly in the market, if the merger of companies does not damage market structure and if there are enough supplies. Also the policy tries to promote competition in local market. The policy always controls if there are enough energy companies in the market and are they able to cover all demand. It is really important policy without it prices can grow sharply especially gas, electricity. For example According to Russian political newspaper Kommersant(cited kommersant.ru) The European Commission (EC) has launched a formal investigation into the actions of Gazprom, which, according to officials, may impede competition in the gas market in Central and Eastern Europe. Gazprom supplies about 30% of the gas imported by the EU. The opening of the investigation does not prejudge the outcome of the proceedings, but only means that the Commission will consider this case as a priority to be confirmed in a statement by the EC. In particular, they suspect that Gazprom could violate Art. 102 of the Treaty on the functioning of the EU. This document regulates the monopolies that restrict competition in the private sector. In Art. 102 contract states that should be prohibited any abuse by which involved one or more dominant position in the domestic market or in part because this may affect trade between Member States. OJSC  «Gazprom » is Russian public gas and the gas distribution company, the largest company in Russia (according to the magazine  «Expert »), the worlds largest gas company, owns the largest gas transportation system (more than 160 000 km). 3.1 Explain how market structures determine the pricing and output decisions of businesses. Market structure is a set of factors, which determine the nature of the interaction between companies. Mainly market structure is a general factor of pricing. Further I will describe it. Market structure can be determined by number of factors: Number of firms in the industry and their size; Type of products produced by the company (a sister or differentiated); Opportunity for new companies to enter to the market. Number of customers. The ability of firms to influence demand through advertising. And so on. However, the main ones are 3 factors: Number of firms in the industry and their size; Type of products produced by the company (a sister or differentiated); Opportunity to enter the industry and exit of other firms. Considering these factors there are four main types of market structure: Perfect competition; Monopoly; Monopolistic competition; Oligopoly. This table shows difference between them C:Usersà Ã‚ Ãƒ Ã‚ °Ãƒ Ã‚ ²Ãƒâ€˜Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒâ€˜Ã†â€™Ãƒ Ã‚ ·DownloadsScreenshot_1.jpg Source(http://financialplanningacademy.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/types-of-market-structures.html) Monopoly is an extreme form of imperfect competition, in which the only seller complete control over the production of goods in the market. It is inevitable in a market economy each competitor in the market wants to become a monopolist. The price of goods is highest in monopoly. Monopolist can put any price for a good because nobody except it produces the goods. Oligopoly is the market structure consisting of a small number of large firms, some of which control a large share of the market. In this situation, market entry of new firms is possible, but difficult. It is too expensive. Non-price competition is nature (technical excellence, quality and reliability of products, etc.) In Monopolistic competition there a lot of firms and they produce the same products but the brand are different. For example in Holborn there are too many cafes which provide good coffee. Each cafà © has own place in the market. Large number of buyer and seller the same goods but different branding and fierce competition. Perfect competition is a competition that takes place in a market where a very large number of interacting firms producing standardized, homogeneous goods. In these conditions, any firm can enter the market, there is no price control. The price regulated by demand and supply .In the market of perfect competition single buyer or seller has little impact on the level of the current market price. Seller can not set higher price for product or service than the market one as buyers are able to buy it for any amount of goods they need from competitors. 3.2 Illustrate the way in which market forces shape organizational responses using a range of examples. Market forces conditions affecting supply and demand in the free market by determining prices, the behavior of buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers, encouraging improvement in production, increasing efficiency and quality of work. Supply is a quantity of goods or serves which are provided in the market. For example if you have 5 phones, then your supply of phones is 5. Demand is a quantity of buyers which would like to buy goods in the market. For examples if there are 6 people who want to buy the number of demand will be 6. Demand and Supply have an enormous affect in free market. It is general rule of this market. The interaction between them makes prices on goods. If there more supply then demand the prices are cheaper, but if the demand more the prices increase. For example the price of oil directly connected with this rule. Several months ago when Libya stopped providing oil to the market the price of oil increased gradually. It happened because Libya is one the biggest exporter of oil so there was little shortage in the market. The more competitors, the less price. The less price means increasing demand as a result increase a profit. It is important for competitors to create something new distinction. For example Apple differentiated its products in order to become market leader. Differentiated its product by using touch screen technology several years ago in that time competitors did not think about implementing this technology. People bought Apple product even it more expensive 2 or 3 times, even now they are still buying because of unique product. 3.3 Judge how the business and cultural environments shape the behavior of a selected organization. Today successful companies in one local market cant be success in other market or they might be but it is difficult. Business and cultural environments have great impact on organization. Business environment includes social, political, legal, economical conditions. Anything not related to political and economic system can be considered as social cultural environment. Culture is an important factor in making business. Sometimes different things mean differently in different countries or cultural environments. When you organize business you should note in which market your goods are targeted domestic or international. It is too difficult for companies to enter to other market. In any society, people have certain fundamental values. For example, most Europeans believe that the most important thing in their lives it is to be honest, hardworking, have a good family and did not spare the money to charity, care about environment. Companies must adapt to such circumstances and gain profit from it. For example Gazprom which is a leader of providing gas energy in EU invests money in environment because the company knows how it is important value of environment in culture life for Europeans. According to Shemetov (2012): Russian energy giant Gazprom accused the European Union of levying political pressure against the company in a bid to force down fuel prices. This statement came after the EU launched a probe into the companys alleged violation of antitrust laws. The investigation of The European Union is illustrating that Gazprom alleged of unfair competition and price-fixing in Europe energy markets. The EU claimed Gazprom has created hindrance in the flow of gas across EUs member-states. Gazprom was also suspected in imposing unfair costs on it customers by Brussels 4.1 Discuss the significance of international trade to UK business organizations. International Trade is an exchange of goods and services between countries. International trade allows UK citizens to expand the markets for goods and services that would not be available to them without it. Thanks to it, we can buy foreign goods, to choose not only between domestic competitors, but also between foreign. As a result, there is a large international trade in a competitive environment, and vendors try to offer consumers better prices. World Trade Organization (WTO) was created to regulate and liberalize international trade between participating countries in 1995. WTO is responsible for the development and implementation of new trade agreements, and to ensure the observance of members of the organization all the agreements signed by most countries and ratified by their parliaments. According to official website(wto.org) now there are 157   members on  24  August  2012. International trade in services and goods not only leads to improved performance, but also allows countries to participate in the global economy, the possibility of encouraging foreign direct investment, which are funds invested in foreign companies and other assets in the package. Mostly UK organizations provide services rather than raw materials. London is the important place in International Trade. Major foreign exchange operations are conducted here. Moreover biggest banks (HSBS, Barclays, RBS.) insurance companies, hedge funds are situated in UK. Many biggest companies are opened even they do not provide services here. It is because of not strict regulation and government fulfillments of their responsibilities. A lot of big financial and non-companies are quoted in British Stock Exchanges. According to statistic which provided WORLD Bank (cited worldbank.org), 32 % of UK GDP accounted for export in 2011. The picture below shows what and where exported UK in 2009/2010 Source(http://www.economywatch.com/world_economy/united-kingdom/export-import.html)C:Usersà Ã‚ Ãƒ Ã‚ °Ãƒ Ã‚ ²Ãƒâ€˜Ã¢â€š ¬Ãƒâ€˜Ã†â€™Ãƒ Ã‚ ·DownloadsUK exports graphic.jpeg 4.2 Analyze the impact of global factors on UK business organizations UK economy as well as other economies is vulnerable to global changes. Global factors relate to external business environment. As stated above UK is one the biggest exporter and importer in the world and any changes in the world affected to UK business directly. We can divide Global Factors into several Groups. Social, political, economic, legal and technological factors. Factor Could include: Political e.g. EU enlargement, the euro, international trade, taxation policy Economic e.g. interest rates, exchange rates, national income, inflation, unemployment, Stock Market Social e.g. ageing population, attitudes to work, income distribution Technological e.g. innovation, new product development, rate of technological obsolescence Environmental e.g. global warming, environmental issues Legal e.g. competition law, health and safety, employment law Source (http://www.oup.com/uk/orc/bin/9780199296378/01student/additional/page_12.htm) Political factor

geograhy of Ireland :: essays research papers

Geo essay Ireland Ireland is an island on the western fringe of Europe between latitude 51 1/2 and 55 1/2 degrees north, and longitude 5 1/2 to 10 1/2 degrees west. Its greatest length, from Malin Head in the north to Mizen Head in the south, is 486 km and its greatest width from east to west is approximately 275 km. Since 1921 the island has been divided politically into two parts. The independent twenty-six county area, comprising 70,282 sq. km, has a population of 3,523,401 (1991). Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom and contains six of the nine counties of the ancient province of Ulster, has a population of 1,569,971 (1991). In 1973 Ireland became a member of the European Union (EU). The two great mountain systems of Europe, north of the Alps, converge westwards to meet and mingle in Ireland. The older (Caledonian) extends from Scandinavia through Scotland to the north and west of Ireland, where it gives rise to the rugged and mountainous landscapes of Counties Donegal, Mayo and Galway. The higher mountains are of quartzite that weathers into bare, cone-shaped peaks such as Errigal (752 m) in Donegal, Croagh Patrick (765m) in Mayo and the Twelve Bens in Galway. Structures of similar age are responsible for the Wicklow and Blackstairs Mountains that extend southwestwards from Dublin Bay for a distance of more than 100 km. In these, long-continued denudation of a great anticlinal structure has exposed a granite core that now forms rounded peat-covered uplands, the crests being notched in places by glacial cirques. Deep glacially modified valleys of which the best known is Glendalough in County Wicklow penetrate the mountains. The younger structures (Armorican) extend from central Europe through Brittany to southern Ireland, where they reappear as a series of east-west anticlinal sandstone ridges separated by limestone or shale-floored valleys. The hills rise in height westwards culminating in Carrantouhill (1041 m) in the Magillycuddy Reeks, the highest mountain in the country. The famous Upper Lake of Killarney nestles in the eastern slopes of this range. The sea, giving rise to a number of long deep inlets has flooded the valleys separating the western extension of these mountains. In northeastern Ireland basaltic lavas spread widely over the existing rocks in Eocene times and now form the bleak plateau of east Antrim. Westwards the basalt is downwarped and the resultant drift-covered lowland is occupied in part by Lough Neagh, the largest lake in Ireland.

Production and Supply of Exotic Vegetables Essay

Greenhouse cultivation started on commercial basis 20 years ago in India. At present more than 25000 greenhouses exists in India cultivating roses, gerbera, carnation, Anthurium, orchids, and vegetables like Capsicum, tomatoes, cucumber and exotic vegetables. India contributes only 1% to the total area under greenhouse in the world. At present Gujarat has around 450 operational greenhouses and will have more than 800 operational greenhouses in 2013. Hence, it’s the time now to promote greenhouse farming to have sustainable agriculture with quality produce in the hands of the consumers. Greenhouse technology has been promoted by the central government and state government on large scale. The farmers are not utilising it in an efficient way mainly because of cultivating the crops as same as they are cultivating in the open field. Hence, the core concept of greenhouse gets vanished away. The research paper is with reference to the research conducted on Controlled environment cultivation in Gujarat. It includes the various aspects of production, operation, supply chain and marketing, subsidies given by various horticulture departments at Central and State level. There is a lot of opportunities and improvements needs to be done at farmer’s level. It includes grabbing the right market at right time which can be achieved only when they transplant at right time keeping in mind the nearby market. Also, the farmers have to change their mind set about the overdose of fertilizers and pesticides which is not beneficial to crops but in turn invites more of pests and disease and deteriorate our soil micro flora and fauna. Since, cultivation in greenhouse in itself is an advantage, increasing the cost of cultivation takes them away from gaining the real advantage. For which it is necessary that they should follow the package of practise as given by the horticulturists of the state government department. Maintenance is another aspect which should be kept in mind like time and schedule of irrigation, weeding, earthing up, right time for tieing the plant, stage of picking the fruits etc. Also, if there is any attack of pest or disease they should consult entomologists or pathologists rather than blindly applying the chemicals as given by the retail stores to sale and promote their brand.

Marketing In Digital Age Marketing Essay Essays

Marketing In Digital Age Marketing Essay Essays Marketing In Digital Age Marketing Essay Essay Marketing In Digital Age Marketing Essay Essay William Rosenberg, the pioneering enterpriser of Dunkin Donuts ( DD ) , had a really simple doctrine: The foreman is the client. By implementing Rosenberg s doctrine, DD operates 7,000 mercantile establishments in 40 states and sells 4 million doughnuts and 2.7 million cups of java daily. Tesco, the taking British supermarket, has grown successfully for many old ages. By contrast, Sainsbury s, the former leader, has struggled to maintain gait and now is in merely 3rd place. Tesco understands and references client demands in a compelling mode it has the right merchandise mix, and provides first-class value. Tesco illustrates the kernel of effectual selling. In general, when you talk about marketing the first thing that comes to our head is Advertisement, publicities, merchandising, etc. That is because we are bombarded with telecasting and newspaper ads, direct mail and gross revenues calls every twenty-four hours. Selling is non merely about advertizement, publicities or selling your merchandises, but it has many more concern activities. Selling is based on 4Ps i.e. Product, Price, Place and Promotion. We could besides state that carry throughing the demands and fulfilling demands of the clients by gaining net income is called selling. In simple words selling means making consciousness of the merchandise and the trade name name by aiming a peculiar group of client ( for illustration age group of 18yrs to 30yrs, females or childs etc. ) to whom you want to sell your merchandise. It generates the scheme that underlies gross revenues techniques, concern communicating, and concern developments. Selling is a really wide construct. Today it plays a really of import function in the procedure of establishing a new merchandise in the market, trade name trueness from the clients, making and increasing the client base for the merchandise s long life in the competitory universe of selling. The gross revenues of a merchandise are mostly depended on the selling manner. A strategic planning is ever of import for the success of the merchandise, particularly in today s universe where the selling has gone digital. We find people purchasing things on cyberspace unlike in the early old ages of 2000 s when cyberspace was merely constructing up its image in selling of merchandises on-line. The advertizements are now done online which is the easiest manner to make the targeted clients. That is because the usage of cyberspace has been increasing enormously. The huge difference that has made in digital selling is the usage of cyberspace engineerings, informations excavation, neuroscience engine erings, web2.0, etc. It has changed the whole system of selling. The selling is now done by aiming the people and brainwashing their head through advertizements and many other ways. They term it as neuromarketing. They target the thought of the client straight off or you can state the human behavior. The houses, today, want non merely to retain their clients but besides increase the client base. The houses therefore, have changed the manner of selling and seeking to remain with the digital age selling by utilizing assorted types of selling engineerings. The essay discusses more on the development of the selling, the difference that the Web2.0 has made in selling universe and besides the neuroscience selling which is really normally used by many houses today as a selling technic. The essay besides discusses about the forthcoming Web3.0 an cyberspace based engineering which will be the following large measure in marketing system. The followers are some popular definitions: Selling as defined in 2007 by the American Marketing Association is the activity, set of establishments, and processes for making, pass oning, presenting, and interchanging offerings that have value for clients, clients, spouses, and society at big. Peter drucker a taking selling direction mind, has described selling as follows: Selling is non merely much broader than merchandising, it is non a specialized activity at all. It encompasses the full concern. It is the whole concern seen from the point of position of its concluding consequence, that is, from the client s point of position . The houses particularly have enjoyed the alteration from 2005, when the Web2.0 came into drama. The selling as a topic has become really broad and wide construct. This is because the alteration or the development in the selling that is brought in by the new engineerings and other new ways of selling for illustration, stealing selling, on-line auctions, e-commerce, etc. these are the things that bears the cogent evidence of impact of the technological development on selling in the recent yesteryear. Today cyberspace is a sort of line of life for the people, without cyberspace they are incapacitated. For il lustration a individual wants to purchase a top-up for his cell phone he ll non travel to a shop alternatively he will utilize cyberspace or the hard currency machines to purchase the top-up. If a individual wishes to eat pizza he can travel to any pizza web site i.e. pizza hut, dominos, etc. and order it. The eBay has been a perfect illustration of technological development in the selling development where people literally sell and purchase different merchandises without even cognizing each other. They merely purchase and sell things by exposing a image and the inside informations of the merchandise. Whereas, in the 1990 s the people had to travel to the stores and purchase things they wish to buy. Most of the people did nt cognize about the new merchandises launched in the market in that epoch. The alteration in the selling technics and the usage of engineering has helped the people in the right manner they wanted. They are now updated through electronic mails from the companies, etc. They besides save a batch of clip, money and energy to make the same things they did by passing a batch clip and money in going to purchase things. The development in selling has brought a batch of alteration and has helped the houses in many ways. It creates a great value for the stockholders and besides attracts more new investors to put in the company. It besides helps the houses to track the market places of the houses A ; its merchandise in the market, the houses have a great advantage of making marketing research of its merchandise to be after the selling schemes of the merchandise i.e. how to market, where to market, who to aim for the merchandise, etc. which is necessary for the success of the merchandise. It has made really easy for the houses to use the Marketing Mix. Selling requires a batch of communicating with the consumers that is in B2C or with the houses in the instance of B2B, for which the cyberspace has been a span to make full the spread. You merely have to email your clients or the company of what you want and how you want, there is an immediate answer within a yearss clip. This has been a major encourage ment for the selling system. It has changed the whole scenario of marketing today. The usage of cyberspace has helped companies save a batch of money which they spent on happening the traders which bears really high hazard of the success of the shop. The consumer on the other manus is besides happy because they can straight purchase the goods from the company and besides can acquire the after gross revenues services straight from the company which is by and large faster so what the retail merchants do. Dell is an first-class illustration for this. They sell computing machines merely online or through an authorized Dell trader which is really rare. The company enjoys a higher net income border and the clients enjoy good service which is direct from the company. The Role Of Web2.0 In Marketing Development The first large measure towards the technological revolution was back in 2001 when dot com entered in the universe of selling. World Wide Web was used for sharing thoughts and advancing treatment, etc. Many people thought it was overhyped and is non every bit good as it looks. The fact is that in the star it easy got in but on the ulterior phase it lacked many ways which were so seen in Web2.0. Web2.0 is the 2nd biggest but even more effectual measure towards the technological revolution in selling system. It took one and half twelvemonth for acquiring a proper clasp in the selling universe after it was used for the first clip in 2004. The advancement narrative or the point of the Web2.0 coming in the calcium hydroxide visible radiation is the high-profile coup detat of the cyberspace telephone service by Skype and so the on-line payment system PayPal by one of the most successful on-line auction site EBay, the coup detat of the photo-sharing site Flickr by Yahoo and the 1.6-bn-dolla r coup detat of the picture exchange site called YouTube by Google have placed the topic of Web 2.0 in the limelight. The houses every bit good as the consumers both have accepted the alteration good. It is besides called as the Social Web . It is besides really frequently used for Social plans like Social Networking ( Facebook, Orkut, MySpace, etc. ) , Social Media, Sharing Contentss, Blogs, Wikis, Podcasting, YouTube, RSS, Google, etc. The Web2.0 has helped the houses reach the clients straight for illustration SPORTSDIRECT.COM. They sell athleticss goods online, they do hold retail mercantile establishments but their chief manner of selling is through cyberspace. The consumers book the merchandises online where they can choose and compare from different trade names and acquire the goods delivered within 24 hours at their door measure without blowing clip of traveling to the shop and purchasing. There are some web sites which help people compare and take to what they want to purchase. For illustration the HUNGARYHOUSE.COM which helps people choose from different eating houses in their country for which nutrient they want to eat and what is the forte of the eating houses in that country. The consumers can travel the web site and select from the options and order repasts. They besides can acquire best trades and offers by booking online. Besides there is a web site for developing concern webs or helps happen new purc hasers or Sellerss of different merchandises. The web site is known as ALIBABA.COM. It is really popular web site where people from different portion of the universe can happen different merchandises sold by many different companies from assorted states. They are besides persons purchasing and selling assortment of merchandises. In general, it is said that everything has a positive and a negative side. The same goes with the Web2.0. There is some danger towards the civilization, society, etc. posed by the usage of Web2.0 for illustration There are some anon. pictures and remixes on YouTube, Google videos and many other similar sites where cultural danger and besides the maltreatment and abuse of the right of first publication picture, Son, music, etc. is frequently seen. There are so many sites which give in item information of doing a BOMB. These things are someway a distressing portion where batch of attention has to be taken make sure of the safety of the universe. After all the good and bad side of the WEB2.0 the essay farther discusses the extroverted Web3.0. The Web 3.0 engineerings are hard to specify how superb it will be, as the lineation of emerging applications has been really clear over the past few old ages with the usage of the Web2.0. We can therefore basically view Web 3.0 as powering large-scale Web applications. The sort of applications that are used in web2.0 will be even more filtered and will be even more sophisticated with better packages. The selling system will profit more in footings of selling goods online, increasing the client base and in many other ways. Thus Web3.0 is traveling to convey enormous alteration in the selling universe by doing things easier and effectual by passing less clip, money and cut downing the sum of labors hired for marketing related occupations. The Use Of Neuroscience Marketing After the Web2.0 as the new engineering for marketing which has made marketing really easily, the houses had to happen a new, a better and effectual manner of selling. The houses, so, started to happen even more new ways of marketing to make the clients and to retain them for long term. The houses started utilizing the neuroscience engineerings to larn the demands of the client to fulfill them with their merchandise. The neuroscience uses the methods that are originally used for encephalon research to look into the economic jobs, and so progress the integration neuroscientific findings into the economic scientific disciplines. Neuromarketing or consumer neuroscience is a portion of neuroeconomics that addresses the selling related jobs i.e. Methods of selling and besides the penetrations from encephalon research. Therefore, with the aid of advanced techniques of neurology, which is used for consumer neuroscience, a more direct position of the clients thought is executable which helps the houses market their merchandise easy to the targeted clients. Consumer neuroscience, when at its initial phase, should non hold be seen as a challenge to traditional consumer research techniques, but gave a complementing promotion towards farther probe of specific decision-making behavior of the consumers. Neuroimaging engineering allows research workers to detect in item of how the human behavior alterations when nervous mechanisms are applied. The to the full groking human behavior requires an apprehension of how evolutionary procedures have been selected for the functional forms and hence, how the nervous system responds to the same. Both economic expert and the brain doctors made efforts to larn and understand the human behavior for which they have used assorted different methods in past few old ages. The economic research on the other manus has tried to explicate the human behavior through experimental informations and other theoretical concepts such as public-service corporation or penchants. Since there are so many types each one has its ain failing and strength. The research work is merely sanctioned or put in to utilize when they are tried with few other types of research methods and one time they are successful with them, they start utilizing it. There are many human physiolo gical reactions that can be easy measured and used for nervous operation. The worlds are capable to assorted cultural phenomena, human behavior is comprised of biological and cultural head set when purchasing things. To be peculiar the importance of development would be a merchandise s gustatory sensation and safety along with how the merchandise influences one s societal head set. Accordingly, assorted advertisement images and famous person subscribers, sometimes makes a consumer choose and be loyal to the trade name. This shows how societal influence via trade name image can be used as a selling method which is really the nervous activity for an affectional response by the consumer towards the trade name. Decision Therefore, from the above essay the development in selling has played a really of import portion in altering the traditional selling methods which made things easier, more effectual by passing less clip, besides helps happen the right information about the consumer and their demands really easy which is really necessary to retain the clients. However, the major alterations were because the usage of cyberspace based engineerings that were introduced which changed the complete image of the selling methods i.e. researching, selling goods, besides happening and comparing things easy, etc. Change is must in about everything. It helps you find new things and besides makes it easier. The selling in past few old ages have experienced the same alteration which has made it really efficient but making it in a really easy method. On the other manus The Web2.0 has made it so easy for the selling portion specifically because in the 1990 s or even in the early 2000 s it was non easy to look and happen the information so easy. It has helped the houses to turn its web of clients in a really easy mode unlike in the 2001 when they used the Web1.0. The Web2.0 has made quit a large difference in the selling methods already, what will be the following thing when the Web3.0 will be in usage, ca nt even conceive of the manner thing s will be. The universe will be working so fast. The selling methods will be even more improved, even more efficient like neer earlier. Besides the houses are now utilizing the neuroscience engineering. Therefore, when the engineering meets science the chance in developing selling accomplishments will be enormous. The selling system has taken major alteration and is seeking to read the clients mind to what they really want and how they think. They are utilizing several neuroscience methods to make this. It has helped them good to both the consumers every bit good as the houses. These inventions of new technics and besides the cyberspace based engineering have helped the selling system alteration and modernise it. These timely alterations are really of import to maintain up with fast traveling digital universe. New methods are ever helpful and should be used until it benefits both the houses and the consumers. It is ever good when the balance is right. Therefore alterations should take topographic point from clip to clip and by the clip Web3.0 is in market there should be more and more new engineerings innovated to do selling more effectual.

Discussion Question Help Example

Discussion Question Help Example Discussion Question Help – Coursework Example Experimental, Quasi-Experimental, and Correlational Research Experimental, Quasi-Experimental, and Correlational Research Scientific research involves asking questions about a test subject and coming up with conclusion from the answers given. Considering the diversity in questions asked during a scientific research, there has been need to come up with standards procedure in doing research. These include quasi-experimental, experimental, and correlation research (Raulin and Graziano, 1993). However, these procedures differ in various ways. The difference is usually in the area each method focuses on.Experimental research generally focus on the impact one variable has over the other in an experiment, often, the effect of independent over dependent variable. The independent variable is controlled by presenting it to a test group which is assumed to be equivalent at the beginning of the research. Quasi-experimental research, unlike experimental research, goes further and considers the fa ct that, it is not a must for all the groups involved in an experiment to be equivalent at the start of the study. According to Raulin and Graziano (1993), for credible result, it is important to conduct a pre-test on the subject before the test, so as, to have a rough idea on what to expect. This will also help in ruling out or avoiding any contradicting variables that may rise during the experiment. In the case of correlation research, the key focus is usually on the bond between the variables themselves. It indicates the status of the variables, positive or negative, and the magnitude of the variables which may be strong or weak (Oswald et al, 2008). In conclusion, it is clear that experiment research focus on the questions about the variables, quasi-experiment on the differences among the test groups and finally, correlation focuses on the direction and strength of the variables. Therefore, it is clear there are different research methods with different approaches. It is also cl ear that clarity in scientific research is well tested and all possible contradiction considered. Implementation and Control for Marketing Plan Assignment

Implementation and Control for Marketing Plan - Assignment Example For monitoring the task, it is proposed to have a cross-functional departmental team assigned to the project which will not just be responsible for having a check at the progress and comparing it against the proposed timeline for ensure timeliness but would also be responsible for regular feedbacks, which may lead to amendments in the marketing plan at any level, even if it is at the fundamental because the organization does not want itself launching a product that backfires and takes down the existing repute of the business as well. Miller (2002) states that 70% of the strategic plans containing various initiatives primarily fail due to factors contributing from the organization itself, the people (the employees) or the partners (share and stakeholders). In this scenario i.e. of SBA, the major participants are the marketing department personnel along with the organizations that are currently involved in the development of these games. Despite the great number of internal forces addition to the external factors, Hrebioniak (2006) conducted researchers to conclude some potential obstacles that hurdle the implementation of an effective strategy. Some of these that are associated with this case are: For overcoming these and several other forms of issues, it is recommended to serve the internal customers on top priority, making people realize that this is a business opportunity that would be beneficial for their organization in the long run and it is a window of opportunity that needs to be  exploited. The concept is similar to that of customer care, i.e. just as the external customers, the strategy to be implemented needs to be ‘sell’ to the internal customers to have a major impact towards its ease of application.

Nobel Prize Winner Harald zur Hausen Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Nobel Prize Winner Harald zur Hausen - Essay Example In 1969, he became a regular teaching and researching professor at the University of Wurzburg, and worked at the Institute for Virology. In 1972, he joined the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1977, he moved on to the University of Freiburg as the head of the department of virology and hygiene. (nobelprize.org) Harald zur Hausen has been honored with Nobel Prize for discovering HPV vaccine. The specific field of Harald Zur Hausen of research is the erudition of oncoviruses. In 1976, he published the hypothesis that human papilloma virus plays a significant role in the cause of cervical cancer. Mutually with his coworkers, he identified HPV16 and HPV18 in cervical cancers in 1983-4. This research directly made possible the development of a vaccine which was launched in 2006. He is also attributed with discovery of the virus causing genital warts (HPV 6) and a monkey lymphotropic polyomavirus that is a close relative to a newly discovered human Merkel cell polyomavirus, as well as methods to immortalize cells with Epstein-Barr virus and to persuade replication of the virus using phorbol esters. His work on papillomaviruses and cervical cancer received an immense deal of scientific censure on initial presentation but afterward was confirmed and extended to other high-risk papilloma viruses. ( The Gairdner Foundation) He made HPV16 and HPV18 available to the scientific society.
